Most Americans who use the internet now use at least one social networking website. Among the 79% of American adults who use the internet, nearly six-in-ten (59%) interact with a social networking site. This is almost double the number of internet users (34%) who used social networking sites in 2008. As more and more Americans sign up for these websites, the average user age has risen as well. A majority of adult social networking site users are now older than age 35, and the typical adult user is now 38 years old, up from age 33 in 2008.
