Americans largely support U.S. joining international efforts to address climate change

Yet renewable sources, like wind and solar, remain Americans’ overall priority for domestic production.
Focus groups with young adults in France, Germany and the United Kingdom revealed that these young people see the U.S. as the “world’s policeman” with a self-interested history of interventionism, while China is labeled the “world’s factory,” respected for its economic dominance but criticized for its expansionism and human rights violations.
Majorities of Americans say the United States should prioritize the development of renewable energy sources and take steps toward the country becoming carbon neutral by the year 2050. But just 31% want to phase out fossil fuels completely, and many foresee unexpected problems in a major transition to renewable energy.
Overall, two-thirds of Americans support providing incentives to increase the use of electric and hybrid vehicles.
The COVID-19 pandemic disrupted international travel in 2020 and 2021, but diplomatic travel picked up significantly in 2022.
Some 57% of adults under 50 who say they are unlikely to have kids say a major reason is they just don’t want to. Among those ages 50 and older, 31% cite this as a reason.
Across 34 nations polled, a 43% median have confidence in Biden’s handling of world affairs, while a 28% median have confidence in Trump.
Black voters are more confident in Biden than Trump when it comes to having the qualities needed to serve another term.
A majority of Trump backers say more immigrants would make life worse for people like them, while most Harris backers say life wouldn’t change.
