There’s a fair amount of data indicating that Americans’ driving habits have worsened over the past five years, at least in some ways.
Among U.S. adults, those who live in the Northeast (17%) are more likely than those in the South (10%), West (8%) and Midwest (7%) to be nondrivers.
Most Americans see cellphone distraction behind the wheel as a major problem in their local community, and about a quarter report witnessing road rage often.
Inflation in the U.S. is down significantly from its recent highs. But actual prices remain elevated and are likely to stay that way.
The share of Americans who say electric vehicles are better for the environment than gas vehicles has decreased 20 points since 2021, from 67%.
Just 12% of Republicans and Republican leaners say dealing with climate change should be a top priority for the president and Congress.
About four-in-ten Americans (38%) say they’re very or somewhat likely to seriously consider an electric vehicle (EV) for their next vehicle purchase.
53% of those 50 and older say the widespread use of driverless vehicles would be a bad idea for society, as do 37% of adults ages 18 to 49.
Women in the U.S. are less likely than men to say that technology has had a mostly positive effect on society (42% vs. 54%).
