Nearly one-in-four Americans (23%) say they are “renewalist,” a faith that emphasizes such spiritually renewing “gifts of the Holy Spirit” as speaking in tongues, divine healing and prophesying. The size and composition of renewalist populations vary substantially from country to country, according to aPew Forum on Religion survey, ranging from a low of 5% in the areas of India surveyed, to a high of 60% in Guatemala.
