Six-in-ten Latinos say discrimination against Hispanics is a “major problem,” up slightly from 57% who said so in 2007. A 36%-plurality of Latinos say immigration status is the most important factor leading to discrimination. In 2007, a 46%-plurality cited language skills as the biggest cause of discrimination against Hispanics. Despite rising concerns, however, there has been no increase in the number of Latinos who report or know someone who has been a target of discrimination. A third of Latinos (34%) say they, a family member or close friend have experienced discrimination in the past five years because of their race or ethnic group — largely unchanged from 2009 when 32% reported discrimination.
